Overview
THREE COUNTERTENORS IN BAROQUE OPERA ARIAS
The “stars” of the baroque opera stage were not tenors but castrati, adored soloists who dominated European stages by embodying heroes, lovers and even female roles. Indeed, the complex plots, mistaken identities and role-play around gender guaranteed genuine success with audiences for the works of the period. Happily, the castrati no longer exist, but their art lives on thanks to the exceptional voices of our own era. Through their expressive intensity and the fascinating richness of their timbre, Valer Sabadus, Arnaud Gluck and Alois Mühlbacher revive this vocal tradition, carried by the legendary beauty of the colours of L'Arpeggiata.
