Having appreciated the richness of Handel's oratorios in England, Joseph Haydn set to music the creation of the world from the Book of Genesis in the Bible: thus was born Die Schöpfung, a work of maturity that remains today one of his most celebrated scores.
Divided into three parts, the oratorio first describes the creation of the earth itself, then the appearance of animals and finally the love of Adam and Eve.
Alternating recitatives, arias and choruses, the music becomes descriptively voluptuous, carried by the genius orchestration and imagination of the composer: you hear birds singing, waves roaring...
You find all the heritage of the Baroque period, mixed with the burgeoning classical style. Celebrating a harmonious universe, Die Schöpfung enjoyed immense success from its creation in 1798 in Vienna.
Solidly supported by the Chamber Orchestra of Paris and under the inspired direction of Thomas Hengelbrock, the Maîtrise Notre-Dame de Paris and its young soloists will serve the work with precision and sensitivity.
