La Fin des Temps "As autumn arrived, their bodies became covered in long golden hairs. A golden hue in the purest sense, to which no other shade could ever mix. The very essence of gold, made manifest in this world.

" Haruki Murakami First revealed to a wide audience in 1989, on the occasion of the bicentenary of the French Revolution, Philippe Decouflé helped, alongside Jean-Paul Goude, to create the Parisian parade "Bleu Blanc Goude" along the Champs-Élysées.

Three years later, he became the mastermind behind the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville.

It was in the aftermath of that event that he met Japanese producer Miyako Kanamori, who entrusted him with adapting the Japanese tale Dora into a musical, created in 1996 in Tokyo.

Twenty years later, Philippe Decouflé created, in Kanagawa, My Name is Shingo, another musical, drawn from Kazuo Umezu's science-fiction manga.

And in 2026, Miyako Kanamori invited Philippe Decouflé to create the very first stage adaptation of one of Haruki Murakami's novels — one of the most widely read contemporary Japanese writers in the world — Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World.

With the author's blessing, the French choreographer set out on a total work of art blending theatre, music and dance, drawing on the conventions of the musical (Les Parapluies de Cherbourg, West Side Story…) as well as the tradition of Kabuki (an epic form of Japanese theatre).

Philippe Decouflé directed a troupe of nine actors and ten dancers for a hybrid show lasting two hours and forty-five minutes, distilling a novel of more than seven hundred pages.
