Vision

By the Shönen company at the Théâtre du Châtelet!

vision seeks new ways of being together by exploring a seemingly simple question: what is seeing and, in this case, looking? Éric Minh Cuong Castaing, Aloun Marchal, Marine Relinger.

For nearly twenty years, the Shōnen company, born under the impetus of choreographer and visual artist Éric Minh Cuong Castaing, has been exploring the link between art and society.

Claiming in socius projects, obliterating none of the issues related to inclusion, the company has specialised in alter-spectacularity, for example by partnering with performers with disabilities.

The purpose of vision is to focus on the gaze that spectators cast on the performers, and vice versa.

Whether they are dancers, actors, musicians, all the artists taking part in this show suffer, to varying degrees, from visual impairments: partially sighted and/or blind, their vision is blurred, double, peripheral, when they are not unable to see due to their blindness.

Consequently, this show emphasises other senses: hearing, of course, or even touch. Inclusion, as one will have understood, is at the heart of the approach.

But inclusion is also the participation of spectators in this other way of thinking about the relationship between art and society.

Thus, from a performance, one moves to a stroll within the walls of the Théâtre du Châtelet: not only is this another way of occupying space, but it is also an act of solidarity and fraternity.
