Overview
lle n’est rien et ne sera jamais rien: such is the fate predicted for Suzanne Simonin, shut away in a convent to atone for the sin of her illegitimate birth, imprisoned by the desire and violence of hysterical mother superiors, walled into a life she did not choose. Twenty years after his first adaptation of Diderot’s novel, Anne Théron returns to the material, this time giving voice to the monsters that gnaw at Suzanne. Bound in this gown/canvas that wraps around her and constrains her, Marie-Laure Crochant confronts her demons in a breathless hand-to-hand struggle that takes our breath away.
