Le carnaval des animaux de Camille Saint-Saëns

The Erik Satie Conservatoire and its teachers are delighted to invite you to the concert "Le carnaval des animaux" by Camille Saint-Saëns, on Wednesday 9 December at 6.30pm at the MPAA-Saint Germain.

With Le Carnaval des animaux, Camille Saint‑Saëns offers a suite of short musical pictures, each devoted to a real or imaginary animal.

The work shows how instruments can tell a story without words: the piano becomes a bounding feline, the strings imitate the heavy tread of the elephant, the flute makes the birds fly, and the xylophone brings the skeleton's bones to life in the famous "Fossiles".

Originally conceived as a light-hearted piece for a circle of musician friends, the work is today a staple of children's concerts.

It offers a first approach to the orchestra, its families of instruments, and the way a composer plays with rhythms, timbres and melodies to create sound pictures.
