Overview
Although naturalised French in 1661, Giovanni Battista Lulli long retained the musical influence of his country of origin in his works, and composed many Italian airs in his ballets, a language very much in vogue at court at the beginning of Louis XIV's reign.
It is therefore a "Signor Lulli" adept of Commedia dell'Arte and Italian baroque lyricism that we will hear in this programme, a kind of whimsical and unbridled Mister Hyde, before the reasoned Doctor Jekyll of Jean-Baptiste Lully takes over, becoming the champion of French Tragédie Lyrique. A unique musical universe in the production of the Sun King's official composer, a secret garden connecting him to his childhood, and a musical portrait of the Florentine Lulli, violinist, guitarist, mime and dancer, author and performer of his own works. For the first time, the complete Italian music of Lully has been recorded by Jérôme Correas and Les Paladins with the Aparté label. Album release on October 16, 2026.
