Les Paladins - Jérôme Correas, Dir. - Il Signor Lulli

Although naturalised French in 1661, Giovanni Battista Lulli long retained in his works the musical influence of his native Italy, and in his ballets he composed many airs in Italian, a language very much in fashion at court at the beginning of Louis XIV's reign.

This is therefore a "Signor Lulli" devoted to the Commedia dell'Arte and to Italianate baroque lyricism that audiences will hear in this programme, a sort of whimsical, unbridled Mister Hyde, before the reasoned Doctor Jekyll of Jean-Baptiste Lully takes over, becoming the champion of French-language tragédie lyrique. A musical world apart within the output of the official composer of the Sun King, a secret garden linking him to his childhood, and a musical portrait of the Florentine Lulli: violinist, guitarist, mime and dancer, author and performer of his own works.

For the first time, the complete Italian music of Lully has been recorded by Jérôme Correas and Les Paladins on the Aparté label. Release of the album on 16 October 2026.

Jérôme Correas and Les Paladins invite you to join them at the Salle Cortot for this exceptional concert, which will mark both the release of the album il Signor Lulli and the ensemble's 25th anniversary.
