« Our head is a large dictionary […]. Our mouth is the wound through which they emerge. » (Lexikon, tale II)
After La luz de un lago and its four love stories, El Conde de Torrefiel returns to the Odéon with a new collection of stories. Lexikon is a book of tales. Seven tales for the future, intended for humans who speak and listen. Seven attempts to pierce the enigma of words – those that connect us as much as those that divide us. A woman spies from her window on a group of artists and tries to crack their code; an academic prepares for his induction speech; a publisher drives home at night on the motorway; a naked performer waits for his audience in a castle in Kassel, Germany; in Cannes, preparations are underway to screen a film without images; two voices begin a conversation that will span time; and a final story that no one will come to tell. With their backs to the auditorium, five performers-narrators take turns and watch the empty space of the stage become the echoing chamber of seven stories about the contemporary world. Engaging the spectator's imagination, called upon to fill in the gaps of the representation, the Catalan company orchestrates a tense dialogue between speech and image, and deploys a whole plastic and scenic vocabulary to break down theatrical conventions: choreographic actions, video projections, puppetry, performance, installation, robotic elements. With Lexikon, Tanya Beyeler and Pablo Gisbert continue their search for a theatre of anticipation, capable of outsmarting the traps of communication.
