Motor Unit

This autumn, the ZEF – scène nationale de Marseille, in partnership with KLAP Maison pour la danse, hosts La Grande Scène, a national highlight dedicated to the emergence of young choreographers, run by the Les Petites Scènes Ouvertes network. As a prelude, KLAP Maison pour la danse invites professionals and the public to discover one of the remarkable artists of its season: Sati Veyrunes.

In June 2026, Sati Veyrunes received the prize for best choreographic performance at the 63rd ceremony of the Syndicat de la Critique awards for Motor Unit.

Sati Veyrunes sets out to highlight the place of the performer in contemporary dance, often placed in the background behind the author-choreographer, despite an essential role of revelation and embodiment. Through the revivals of two solos, driven by the desire and necessity of a profound physical engagement, the astonishing performer becomes the thread running between languages. Erna Ómarsdóttir, now artistic director of the Iceland Dance Company, passes on to her a section of her major piece, written in 2002: IBM 1401 - A User's manual. The dancer also takes on a solo extracted from Voice of Power by the Hungarian artist Adrienn Hód, marked by the complexity and radicalism of intimate expressions. With MOTOR UNIT, the body becomes a messenger of living archives, a space of rewriting that blends past and present through physical commitment, where the plurality of the performer asserts the claim to take hold of the still-new notion of contemporary repertoire.
