Paradise Lost (Lies unopened beside me) _ Ben Duke

This is where it all begins: the great humanist of British dance delivers his divine comedy.

Have you ever found yourself, asks Ben Duke, creating something – a child, a garden or a paper aeroplane – only to watch it spiral out of control?

Assuming that even God must share this feeling – given the state of His creation – Ben Duke does not hesitate to embody Him on stage, armed with a humour that is as sly as it is kind. But he also plays Lucifer. He plays Adam. And Eve!

All of this draws its inspiration from a major masterpiece of seventeenth-century English literature: Paradise Lost by John Milton, an epic poem of thousands of lines that offers a philosophical and humanist view of the expulsion from Paradise.

The English press remarks: "This portrait of God is so funny and strangely noble that even the most hardened atheist will struggle to resist it." Thomas Hahn
