Suzana Bartal, Piano - Dohnányi, Bartók, Liszt

RURALIA HUNGARICA Hungarian folklore in all its expressiveness and virtuosity.

For the programme of this concert, recorded on my most recent album, I have chosen works that echo my Hungarian roots. Both the so-called 'Hungarian' pieces, which are in fact Gypsy music, found in Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsodies, and the authentic folk material rediscovered by Bartók are highly representative of the musical fabric of Hungary. Dohnányi's cycle, composed in 1925 and performed far too rarely in concert, is without doubt a masterpiece of the piano repertoire, and sits at the crossroads of these two folk influences, with one eye on the 20th century.

Having been enchanted since childhood by the expressiveness, at times the melancholy, but also the dynamic and joyful rhythms of this music, I am particularly delighted to present this programme at the Salle Cortot.
