Overview
Théotime Langlois de Swarte, violin. Justin Taylor, harpsichord.
FRANCŒUR/REBEL, ANET, RAMEAU, CORELLI
Gavottes, opera airs, sonatas and folías
The two Françoises, Rebel and Francœur, played a brilliant part in developing the art of the sonata in France, following in the footsteps of the great Arcangelo Corelli, whose 12 Sonate per violino, Op. 5, exerted an immense influence across the whole of Europe over several decades, including on geniuses of the stature of Bach and Rameau. Celebrated virtuosos of their instrument for their technical perfection and the beauty of their tone, Rebel and Francœur composed works tailored to their exceptional abilities. Above all, a unique occurrence in music history, these "Siamese twins of music" wrote dazzling pages together, even co-signing operas! Brothers in music too, in every way worthy of the illustrious masters they perform, Théotime Langlois de Swarte and Justin Taylor set out to pay tribute to these remarkable figures in a fascinating programme.
