The Haunted Youth, the band led by Joachim Liebens, is perhaps the greatest Belgian indie rock sensation of recent years.
Following the resounding European success of their acclaimed debut album, Dawn of the Freak, their highly anticipated new album, Boys Cry Too, was released on May 8, 2026. Today Boys Cry Too, Liebens's second album, is released.
From the imposing eight-minute opening piece, in my head—which ends with his harrowing screams amid feedback howls—to the final ghostly chord of ghost girl, Boys Cry Too offers a journey of striking emotional intensity through loss, despair, grief, anger and hope.
It is a record nourished by emotional torment—as evidenced by the self-destructive roar of deathwish or the rebellious punk energy of forget me—but which also reveals raw vulnerability, palpable in the crystalline beauty of emo song and hurt, as well as in the emotionally raw confessions that run through Liebens's lyrics.
