Arlo Parks

Arlo Parks, the young British artist with a soft voice and poetic lyrics, returns to enchant the Parisian stage. Her unique style, blending soul, folk and indie, promises an introspective and moving evening at La Gaîté Lyrique.

Arlo Parks, real name Anaïs Oluwatoyin Estelle Marinho, has quickly established herself as a distinctive figure on the contemporary music scene. Originally from London, she began writing and composing as a teenager, drawing inspiration from poetry and literature. Her debut album, « Collapsed in Sunbeams  », released in 2021, was acclaimed by critics and audiences alike, going on to win the prestigious Mercury Prize. This record, carried by tracks such as « Hurt  » or « Caroline  », portrays with great sensitivity the nuances of human emotion, from anxiety to hope, with a striking maturity for her young age. Her music is an invitation to introspection, a melodic refuge where words matter just as much as the notes.

Her musical style is characterised by a delicate fusion of genres, moving between neo-soul, spoken word, folk and indie pop. Arlo Parks's voice, often described as soft and soothing, is an instrument in its own right, capable of conveying rare emotional depth. Her lyrics, marked by vulnerability and a keen observation of the world around her, address universal themes such as mental health, love, friendship and the search for identity. Among her influences she cites artists as diverse as Frank Ocean, King Krule or Sylvia Plath, which attests to her eclectic approach and artistic richness.

On stage, Arlo Parks offers an intimate and captivating experience. Far from artifice, she creates a warm atmosphere in which authenticity takes precedence. Her performances are renowned for their sincerity, allowing the audience to connect deeply with her songs. On this visit to Paris, La Gaîté Lyrique, with its setting conducive to discovery and immersive musical experiences, is the ideal venue to host the delicate yet powerful world of Arlo Parks.
