Tristan Macé & Annelise Clément - Cendre

‘I wrote Cendres du motif, a quintet for bass clarinet, specially for Annelise Clément, a contemporary virtuoso of this magnificent instrument. I conceived it as a distant echo of the motifs of that mythical work, Brahms’s Quintet for clarinet.

Thus the two scores, performed by the same musicians, will enter that evening into a whole play of resonances that bring back to life the refined world of Mitteleuropa, carried away by the fire of History.

One will feel the shadows of Vienna, of Bàrtok, of Paul Celan passing through, caught in the rhythmic surges of a writing of today, which also remembers Eric Dolphy or Michel Portal, those great heralds of the instrument...
