"I wrote Ashes of the Motif, a quintet for bass clarinet, especially for Annelise Clément, virtuoso contemporary of this magnificent instrument. I conceived it as a distant echo to the motifs of this mythical work that is Brahms' Clarinet Quintet.
Thus the two scores, carried by the same performers, will enter tonight into a whole game of resonances that revive the refined world of Mitteleuropa swept away by the fire of History.
You will feel the shadows of Vienna, Bartók, Paul Celan, caught in the rhythmic impulses of a writing of today, which also remembers Eric Dolphy or Michel Portal, these great heralds of the instrument... I am very happy that the Triton welcomes this score in world premiere!
