Amazigh

Having explored the warrior dance known as "Alaoui" with the creation GOUÂL in 2021, Filipe Lourenço this time draws on research into another traditional dance called "Ahidous", from Central Morocco (Middle Atlas).

The latter is one of the variants of the collective dance of Berber essence found across Morocco and beyond, under various forms and names. Ahidous is the collective bodily and poetic means of expression most prized by the peoples of the Middle Atlas for celebrating.

The aim is to deconstruct the divide between the two genres rather than reverse it, so as to better lift the taboo of the gaze that falls upon the feminine, or the one that excludes women from the transmission of these traditions.

Still driven by the pursuit of the full and complete commitment of the bodies, Filipe Lourenço's choreographic writing does not shy away from the critical dimension of his purpose, supported by a strong desire to modernise ancestral practices.

With this reimagined Ahidous, Filipe Lourenço once again proposes to choreograph expenditure by opening the danced imaginaries of the Maghreb to a collective landscape, embracing the stance of a resolutely inclusive gesture.
