BabelMourad Merzouki - Compagnie Käfig

After the success of the shows « Au Bonheur des Dames  » and « Entre Chiens et Louves  », Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche invites choreographer Mourad Merzouki in 2025 for a previously unseen creation. After nightfall, once the store has closed, step into a dreamlike interpretation of the myth of the Tower of Babel, blending dance and circus. In a dizzying staging, the ten protagonists of this fable, dancers and circus artists, deliver a poetic performance of great heights, as earthbound as it is aerial, and convey a powerful message… That of a society in which dance makes it possible to shape a modern utopia, in which cultural differences and human ambitions become a powerful, energetic and far more beautiful force.

Mourad Merzouki: Choreographer and a leading figure of the hip-hop movement, Mourad Merzouki has been developing an artistic universe since the 1990s that blends dance, circus, martial arts, visual arts, video and music. In 1996 he founded his own company, which takes the name of its inaugural piece: Käfig. Numerous successes followed, notably Pixel in 2014, Vertikal and Folia in 2018, Zéphyr in 2021, Phénix in 2022 and, more recently, Beauséjour in 2024. Today the choreographer has close to 40 pieces, seen by more than 2 million spectators around the world. On the occasion of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Mourad Merzouki designed the choreography for the French national team's free routine in artistic swimming, as well as a show bringing together 30 dancers and acrobats to celebrate the victorious athletes. A breathtaking performance in front of more than 55,000 spectators at the Parc des Champions, Trocadéro.
