Christophe Marguet

In 1962, Brendon Grimshaw bought the uninhabited island 'Moyenne' in the Seychelles and settled there permanently ten years later.

He lived alone there for thirty-nine years until his last breath, away from the consumer world and in total immersion with nature and surrounding wildlife.

With the help of René Lafortin, they build his house, create nearly five kilometers of trails, replant 16,000 trees, attract 2,000 new bird species and introduce over a hundred giant tortoises.

In 2008, this island becomes a National Park and now houses two-thirds of the fauna of the Seychelles.

This modern-day Robinson Crusoe lived an incredible love story with nature that illuminates our understanding of humanity's capacity to make life essential, harmonious, simple and useful.

This exemplary act of resistance offers a direct parallel to our artistic work, like a necessary and vital withdrawal into ourselves, essential to creation.
