An important figure in the queer community in the United States, Dorian Wood celebrates the mythic Mexican singer Chavela Vargas with Xavela Lux Aeterna, a flamboyant concert conceived as a ritual of love and memory.
Between visual arts, music, theater and performance, Dorian Wood develops creative activity driven by the will to defy traditions and norms of dominant systems in the modern world.
Xavela Lux Aeterna leads him to revisit the feverish repertoire of the great Chavela Vargas, who has become a queer icon. Sharing Costa Rican roots, the two artists also share the same birthday (April 17).
Alongside a small musical formation, Dorian Wood reinvents the art of rancheras (traditional Mexican songs popularized from the 1930s onwards) by bringing his vocal mastery and magnetic presence.
