Overview
A free-spirited and transgressive figure, Chavela Vargas embodied revolt, love and self-affirmation all her life. Echoing that destiny, Dorian Wood weaves an intimate link between musical heritage and personal commitment.
« For those of us who were pushed to the margins by society, Chavela is a divine presence », confides Dorian Wood, who shares with her Costa Rican roots, her homosexuality and even her date of birth.
Accompanied by a string quartet and a guitarist, Dorian Wood revisits Chavela's great classics, blending the tradition of rancheras and bolero with contemporary arrangements and an intensely inhabited stage presence.
Between stripped-back simplicity and power, the music becomes here a space of memory and transformation. Booking for people with reduced mobility: 04 42 49 02 00.
