Fantasio

Disillusioned, idle, and penniless, Fantasio is the quintessential Musset hero. An eminent representative of a generation that is both clear-sighted and disillusioned, the young romantic hero drowns his melancholy in bars with his one-night friends, until he is struck by a revelation: the king's jester has just died, and he will replace him! Fantasio appears as a sage beneath the clown's mask and takes pleasure in denouncing the arrangements of power. By meddling in what doesn't concern him, he thwarts Princess Elsbeth's marriage, freeing her from the yoke of convention and granting her the right to happiness and love – not without escaping her love, as she will have mistaken him for the one destined for her… A philosophical tale not so dark after all, where rebellion suddenly finds meaning in the power of actions and commitment.
