Born in Wellington, the musicians of Fat Freddy’s Drop have made live performance their experimental playground. With seven members on stage, they weave a continuous dialogue between dub, soul, jazz, and electro, allowing the music to stretch out, diverge, and catch its breath. Nothing is fixed: each performance invents its own trajectory. Their first studio album, Based on a True Story — eleven times platinum — confirmed this relationship with time and sound, establishing the band as one of the most unique faces of the New Zealand scene. Fat Freddy’s Drop was awarded at the New Zealand Awards (2005) in all categories for which they were nominated. Since then, they have toured relentlessly, driven by a collective fervour and the simple desire to play together for a long time. And above all, they pursue the same quest: to amaze!
