and his executive producer ERDA, Insula orchestra. Royal Weddings – The Splendors of the Renaissance. , this extraordinary project transports us to 1599, at the triumphal entry of sovereigns Albert and Isabella of Austria into Brussels, following their marriage in Valencia.

For the occasion, the greatest musicians from all over Europe gather – from Monteverdi to Praetorius, Philips and Allegri – for festivities of unequaled splendor.

Hervé Niquet and Le Concert Spirituel conceived the evening as in those times, in three parts: a processional musical procession, dazzling sacred polyphonies, and a final ball with dance music and rousing popular songs.

The project also has a rare musicological dimension: research has made it possible to reconstruct a specific Renaissance instrumentation, bringing back to life the sonorities of rare and visually spectacular instruments – drums of impressive dimensions recreated for the occasion, fifes, natural trumpets, shawms (ancestors of the oboe), cornets, sackbuts (ancestors of the trombone), a band of Renaissance violins and regals, these small portable organs with manual bellows.
