, this extraordinary project transports us to 1599, during the triumphal entry of sovereigns Albert and Isabella of Austria into Brussels, following their wedding in Valencia.

For the occasion, the greatest musicians from throughout Europe gather—from Monteverdi to Praetorius, Philips, or Allegri—for festivities of unparalleled splendor.

Hervé Niquet and Le Concert Spirituel conceived the evening as in the era, in three parts: a wandering musical procession, dazzling sacred polyphony, and a final ball with dance music and rousing popular songs.

The project also has rare musicological dimension: research allowed reconstitution of specific Renaissance instrumentation, reviving the sonorities of rare and visually spectacular instruments—impressive-sized drums recreated for the occasion, fifes, natural trumpets, bombardes (oboe ancestors), cornets, sackbuts (trombone ancestors), Renaissance violin band and regals, these small portable organs with manual bellows.
