Hudson Freeman

After a first visit to Paris at Rock en Seine last August, Hudson Freeman will be back in the capital for a concert at Les Étoiles on 14 February 2027.

Based in Brooklyn, Hudson Freeman is a lo-fi folk artist shaped by the DIY spirit of the American Midwest. Born in Waxahachie, Texas, into a family of evangelical missionaries, he began writing his first songs at the age of thirteen, following a major upheaval: his family suddenly left the Dallas suburbs to settle in the Kingdom of Eswatini. Deeply influenced by indie figures like Sufjan Stevens and Bon Iver, and marked by his years of study in Springfield, Missouri, Hudson developed a profoundly independent approach to music. After his studies and a pandemic that put his projects on hold, he moved to Brooklyn, where his career truly began to take shape. Released in 2025, his album Is A Folk Artist asserts his singularity as a songwriter of the digital age. Through modern and introspective folk, Hudson Freeman explores faith, belonging, and anxiety. Like artists who inspire him such as Sufjan Stevens, Pedro the Lion, or Weed, he recounts a period of transition marked by his religious upbringing, the questioning of certain moral absolutes, ephemeral friendships, and the search for one's own place, especially in an increasingly connected world. Then came “If You Know Me”. Carried by an immediately recognisable guitar riff, the track quickly attracted attention and propelled Hudson Freeman to a much wider audience. Blending bedroom pop, folk, slowcore, and post-emo, the track confirms his melodic talent and became a real turning point in his career.
