Juste Irena

JUSTE IRENATHEATRE & MARIONETTESCOMPAGNIE PANAME PILOTIS

A Polish lady lives in a retirement home. She is 98 years old, her name is Irena, and her appearance as a wrinkled old apple makes the heroic deeds she carried out during the Second World War impossible to suspect: 2,500 Jewish children saved from the Warsaw Ghetto and from deportation. While three high-school students from Kansas, Liz, Megan and Sabrina, investigate the life of this heroine, Irena summons the ghosts of her past in her room. She reconstructs fragments of a memory that is fading, so that the unimaginable will remain engraved forever. This multifaceted show knits a tight weave between fiction and historical reality, past and present, flesh-and-blood actresses and object puppets. Juste Irena recounts the evils of yesterday to prevent those of today, makes the notions of courage and humanity resonate, and sheds light on both great History and small ones. But there are no great or small stories in life: there is LIFE!
