L'Avare

A classic Molière play, L'Avare is being staged at the Centre des Arts, a theatre in Enghien-les-Bains, as part of the season's shows.

L'Avare is a five-act comedy by Molière, whose plot revolves around Harpagon, a wealthy old man obsessed with his money and with the marriage of his children. This piece from the classic repertoire relies on character comedy and on the mix-ups that arise from the family's thwarted plans.

The show belongs to classical theatre: the audience hears a language in alexandrines and prose, carried by the actors' performance on stage. This staging is part of the programming at the Centre des Arts, a theatre in the heart of Enghien-les-Bains, which hosts theatre shows throughout the year.

The play is aimed at audiences curious about the great texts of the French repertoire, as well as those discovering Molière in the theatre for the first time. The Centre des Arts welcomes here a work whose satire of avarice and human failings remains as relevant as ever.
