Léna Bréban superbly adapts and directs Beaumarchais' famous text “Le Mariage de Figaro”, brought to life by a top-notch cast and the immense Philippe Torreton. Figaro the valet wants to marry Suzanne the chambermaid, but the Count, who has grown tired of the Countess, would like to exercise the droit du seigneur over Suzanne, a right he has only just abolished. Marceline wants to marry Figaro, who promised to do so if he didn't repay the debt he owes her. Basile, for his part, would like to marry Marceline, but her heart is already taken by the famous Figaro. The very young Fanchette doesn't yet know who she wants to marry, but many men are flocking around her small room... Beneath falsely light and playful appearances, beneath a vaudeville plot, Beaumarchais here demonstrates class struggle, the violent domination of the wealthy, the corruption of justice, and society's hypocrisy regarding morals. This funny and contemporary production is a great success, performed by a formidable troupe.
