La Liesse

Presented by the Théâtre d'Arles Pierre Pontvianne's striking style Between illusion and disillusion, Pierre Pontvianne's dance multiplies itself in a whirl of movement, gradually sketching out a world caught between dreaminess and dystopia.

What happens when the crowd disperses and emotions turn inside out? What does collective fervour produce — and what does its fading produce?

At the heart of the piece, a track by the Lebanese collective Sanam evokes, through lyrics drawn from a poem by Lebanese writer Paul Chaoul, loss, finitude and falling.

The five performers pass through all these states to build, in unison, a shared figure — an act of resistance and hope for the world to come.
