La Veilleuse

At night, when the theatres have been deserted by audiences and performers, the teams set a night light on the stage.

A simple bare bulb, mounted on a stand, readies itself in the empty auditorium to face down the spirits that are sure to appear: in English it is called the ghost light, or lamp of the phantoms. La Veilleuse, Cabaret holographique pays tribute to this object of the shadows and its stubborn glow, a symbol of optimism and creative energy. In an artistic cavern, performers gather beneath their ghostly finery in a surreal suite, and make the most of their immateriality, which is only temporary: Yael Naim, multiplied, takes flight; the dancer Kaori Ito leaves the trace of her movements in space; the bewitching singers of Birds on a wire vanish in smoke... How does one make a presence felt in the face of the intangible? Is it not the very nature of magic to bring us into the presence of the invisible?
