In a few words

Le Crépuscule des Dieux, presented here in a "historically informed" version led by Kent Nagano and the musical forces of Dresden, is the final installment of the Ring Cycle, following L’Or du Rhin, La Walkyrie, and Siegfried. Wagner found its source in the events of the 1848 revolution and, in response, envisioned a "Theatre of Revolution" describing the upheaval of the established order, the writing of which occupied him for twenty years. The Ring Cycle is a unique musical and dramatic world, where the musician constantly invented motifs to nourish the dramaturgy of the characters. That Richard Wagner's famous epic can still offer entirely new listening experiences today is proposed here as part of the Dresden Music Festival's "Wagner Cycles" project. Since 2023, in close collaboration with a team of renowned musicologists, each chapter of the Ring Cycle has been prepared and performed in Dresden and on tours in Europe, following a historically informed approach. For the finale – Le Crépuscule is the only opus of the Ring Cycle to feature a choir – the Dresden Festival Choir was specially formed for the occasion, adding an impressive sonic dimension.
