Compagnie Thomas Le Douarec After Le Portrait de Dorian Gray, L’Idiot, and Le Jour où je suis devenue chanteuse black, the Compagnie Thomas Le Douarec presents a Misanthrope 2.0 which has enjoyed great success for the past 3 years at the Festival d’Avignon and on tour. For his first staging of a Molière text, director and actor Thomas le Douarec offers a modern version by transposing the play's action into the artificial and superficial world of influencers, "Instagrammers", YouTubers, and other jet-setters... Without resorting to new provocation, he instead highlights all the modernity of Molière's language and message, reminding us of the rebellious and visionary being he was. Alceste hates social gatherings, refuses all compromise, and denounces the hypocrisy of his peers. Yet he is madly in love with the frivolous Célimène, a young and beautiful widow, coquettish and complacent... In this comedy with a dark tone, Molière questions the possibility of being happy, sincere, and free within a society obsessed and consumed by appearances and pretences. A biting play, between laughter and emotion.
