LE SCHPOUNTZ

By Marcel PAGNOL

Directed by: Delphine Depardieu and Arthur Cachia

With Axel Blind, Arthur Cachia, Patrick Chayriguès, Simon Gabillet, Milena Marinelli and Jean-Benoît Souilh

Irénée is a modest grocer's boy working in his uncle's shop in the countryside around Marseille. He is convinced he has a natural gift that destines him for a great career in the cinema. A team of Parisian filmmakers passing through the area on location scouting, amused by the pretensions of this "Schpountz", hands him a fake actor's contract. Swollen with pride and deaf to the warnings of those close to him, Irénée, contract in pocket, travels up to Paris and presents himself at the studios.

A family comedy that has become a cult classic, paying a vibrant and savoury tribute to laughter and to its necessity.

"When we make people laugh on stage or on screen, we do not demean ourselves, quite the contrary. Laughter is not some absurd and vulgar convulsion but a human thing that God has perhaps given to men to console them for being intelligent." Marcel Pagnol

"Not a dull moment, everything is fluid and spot on, like Pagnol's language." Tatouvu
