Lento

Lento combines Gilles Barikosky's lyrical soprano saxophone with Nicolas Torracinta's electric guitar textures, blending jazz and ethereal pop.

Lento is an instrumental music project that began in 2021. It was born from a collaboration between saxophonist Gilles Barikosky and guitarist Nicolas Torracinta. Its roots lie in improvised music, jazz, and Latin music. It is from this fertile ground of shared influences that the project draws its inspiration, bringing together original compositions and co-arrangements. One can hear the enveloping timbre of a soprano saxophone, favouring lyricism and melody and reminiscent of the human voice, accompanied by an electric guitar blending colours inspired by both jazz and ethereal Anglo-Saxon pop textures. At the heart of this adventure is a shared repertoire of jazz standards that the two musicians have performed on numerous occasions between Corsica and Paris since 2014. It was by seeking refined and personal arrangements that a sound and aesthetic gradually emerged over time. Then came the first compositions, which were recorded as demos, and with that, the idea of creating a new project to bring them to life. Subsequently, they invited drummer Clément Brajtman and double bassist Fabricio Nicolas to join them for a first working session in April 2023, which led them to keep this formation, offering more scope and colour to the project's rhythm section. The journey continued with a first concert in August 2023 and preparation for recording an album. Release on 6 February 2026!
