Marga Alfeirão - LOUNGE

With the Festival d'Automne. A sensual duet guided by slow-motion movement, LOUNGE explores the relaxation of bodies and the comfort of rest as an act of affirming femininities.

On stage, two performers support one another, brush against each other, and hold each other's gaze. Through simple, erotic, slowed-down gestures, they build a space where desire circulates without ever imposing itself.

Touch, breath and gaze become the main vehicles of a sensuality in which the boundaries between the one who acts and the one who receives are constantly shifting.

The title plays on two uses of the English word "lounge": a verb meaning to laze about; and a noun describing a public space in which to relax.

A Lisbon-based artist steeped in the cultures and sounds of the African diaspora, Marga Alfeirão develops a choreographic language in which the body becomes a political and sensitive space. With LOUNGE, she unfolds a dance of gaze, of detail, of suggestion and desire.

By creating safe spaces to explore intimacy and sexuality from female and feminised perspectives, the choreographer asserts an aesthetic of rest and pleasure as gestures of resistance against logics of exposure and performance.
