Pauline Bureau - Entre parenthèses

Part intimate journey, part police investigation, Entre parenthèses traces the struggle of a woman who was raped in childhood. From the sudden emergence of a traumatic memory to the outline of a collective fight, the show argues for a liberation of listening.

A call from the Brigade des mineurs about a sexual assault she suffered 30 years ago sends Alma on the long road to awareness.

Through a staging that conveys both a mental landscape in the midst of rearrangement and a meticulous police investigation, Entre parenthèses tells the story of a child who has no words and of a woman who will find them, helped by a psychiatrist who is transforming the care of victims.

For Alma is not alone: it is also the story of 72 little girls who lodged complaints, of 19 women who testify at the assize court, and of their words finally heard.

In this free adaptation of Adélaïde Bon's account, La Petite fille sur la banquise, Pauline Bureau, associate artist at CENTQUATRE-PARIS, continues her exploration of the links between the intimate and the political.

The staging – with its remarkable video work – allows the author and director to give equal attention to the narrative and to feeling, drawing the audience into an approach that is both documentary and empathetic.
