Mothermary

Sanit Mils presents: MOTHERMARY (Art Pop / Darkwave - USA)

Elyse and Larena grew up in a particularly strict Mormon family in Missoula, Montana. Twin sisters among a brood of almost twelve children, they were raised in an environment where religion dictated just about everything. They eventually left the Church and found themselves in New York. It was from this rupture that MOTHERMARY was born, a project that subverts Christian symbols and takes aim at the expectations imposed on women, with a pronounced taste for provocation and sacrilege.

Musically, the two American women move between synth-pop, darkwave and art-pop, with ethereal vocals laid over more abrasive synths and electronic rhythms. Their debut album, I Am Your God, was released in 2022 on Italians Do It Better, Johnny Jewel's label, and earned them attention from Pitchfork, The Fader and even Mojo. After touring with AFI, Metronomy, Twin Shadow, Neon Indian and The Last Dinner Party, they released the EP Non-Duality at the end of 2025, accompanied by the video for For You, selected for the SXSW Film Festival. The record paves the way for their second album, Outer Darkness, announced for 2026.
