Heir to the Orchestre de la Société Sainte-Cécile founded in 1850, and regularly hosted at Le Pin Galant, the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine comprises around a hundred musicians and is one of France's most prestigious orchestras. Since September 2024, Joseph Swensen has been its Musical Director. The lyricism, virtuosity, grandeur, and romantic sweep: the majesty of this Violin Concerto alone encapsulates all the promise for the future contained within Beethoven's music. The composer, whose bicentenary of death is being celebrated, opens the way to a new kind of concerto with this work. He would do the same with the Symphony, inspiring generations of musicians after him, including Bruckner, of course, with his epic Symphony No. 4, known as the “Romantic”.
