Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine

The Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine (ONBA) is a French symphony orchestra based in Bordeaux, whose main hall is the Palais des sports. It accompanies the Opéra National de Bordeaux and its Ballet, and takes part in festivals such as La Folle Journée (Nantes) and the Festival de La Roque-d'Anthéron. It is supported by the City of Bordeaux, the French Ministry of Culture and the Aquitaine Regional Council.

Its roots go back to the Orchestre de la Société Sainte-Cécile, founded in 1843 by Charles Mézeray, and to the Association des Professeurs du Conservatoire, founded in 1932 by Gaston Poulet, which merged in 1940 to form the Société des Concerts du Conservatoire. Renamed Orchestre Philharmonique de Bordeaux after the Second World War, then Orchestre Symphonique de Bordeaux in 1963 and Orchestre de Bordeaux Aquitaine in 1972, it grew to 95 musicians under the direction of Roberto Benzi. Under Alain Lombard, from 1988 to 1995, it took its current name and today numbers around 120 musicians.

Its current music director is the American conductor Joseph Swensen, since the 2024-2025 season. Among the ONBA's former principal guest conductors is Yutaka Sado, from 1999 to 2004. The ONBA has recorded for labels such as Naxos Records, harmonia mundi and Mirare.
