Pokey Lafarge

Presented by Le New Morning. For twenty years, Pokey LaFarge has been forging his own path with disarming ease, a true iconoclastic troubadour: frank, sincere and always ready to open up without pretence.

With Rent Money, he takes a new step and delivers what may well be considered his best album to date, at once a deeply personal testimony and a lucid look at our society.

Driven by twangy guitars, lively rhythms and irresistibly catchy melodies, the album soars and flits along with infectious energy. Behind its bright, uniting choruses, however, lies a persistent unease, a reflection of the anxiety running through our troubled era.

As ever, the artist, who hails from Illinois, moves with brio between genres, blending with ease the many currents of twentieth-century American music with sincere songwriting, a committed interpretation and a subtly subversive creativity.

Rent Money stands as a peak in Pokey LaFarge's career: a major work by an artist unlike any other, whose rare ingenuity is matched only by his frankness. More than ever, he continues on his way with determination, shaping deeply human music that belongs to him alone.
