Elijah Fox is a multi-instrumentalist, singer and producer based in Los Angeles, California. He grew up in Durham, North Carolina, and began playing piano at the age of 11. At an early age he was mentored by Yusuf Salim, a pianist who had played with Charlie Parker, whom he met after spotting an advertisement in the local newspaper for a jazz improvisation session. Fox studied piano at the Oberlin Conservatory under Sullivan Fortner, Billy Hart and Dan Wall. He graduated in 2017 and then settled in New York. His piano composition "East Village" was sampled by Drake and 21 Savage on the track "Major Distribution", which reached number three on the Billboard chart. He has also recorded and produced for artists such as SZA, Masego, YG, ScHoolboy Q, Denzel Curry, Tate McRae, Musiq Soulchild, Childish Gambino, Kali Uchis, J. Cole and many others, while releasing his own original compositions and sample libraries. His impressionistic piano improvisation "Wyoming" went viral on TikTok and surpassed 45 million streams on Spotify. His grandmother, the classical pianist Ruth Peck, was a major source of inspiration for him and his brother Solomon as they learned the piano. He is signed to Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) as a songwriter and to Atlantic Records as an artist. He is also the touring keyboardist for British drummer Yussef Dayes and has performed around the world. Fox has also played his original music at sold-out concerts in the United States and Europe, and has toured three fully improvised solo shows, inspired by Keith Jarrett. His musical universe blends elements of jazz, impressionism and psychedelic soul. He also releases instrumental music under the pseudonym "Soren Sostrom".
