Elijah Fox

Presented by New Morning Elijah Fox is a multi-instrumentalist, singer and producer based in Los Angeles, California. He grew up in Durham, North Carolina, and began playing piano at age 11.

Early on, he was mentored by Yusuf Salim, a pianist who played with Charlie Parker, whom he met after finding a notice for a jazz improvisation session in the local newspaper. Fox studied piano at Oberlin Conservatory under Sullivan Fortner, Billy Hart and Dan Wall.

After graduating in 2017, he later settled in New York. His piano composition titled 'East Village' was sampled by Drake and 21 Savage in the track 'Major Distribution', which reached third place on the Billboard chart.

He has also recorded and produced for artists such as SZA, Masego, YG, ScHoolboy Q, Denzel Curry, Tate McRae, Musiq Soulchild, Childish Gambino, Kali Uchis, J. Cole and many others, while publishing his own original compositions and sample packs.

His impressionist piano improvisation 'Wyoming' went viral on TikTok and exceeded 45 million streams on Spotify. His grandmother, classical pianist Ruth Peck, was a major source of inspiration for him and his brother Solomon in their piano learning.

He is signed with Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) as a songwriter and with Atlantic Records as an artist. He is also the touring keyboardist for British drummer Yussef Dayes and has performed worldwide.

Fox has also performed his original music at sold-out concerts in the United States and Europe, and has done three entirely improvised solo tours, inspired by Keith Jarrett. His musical universe blends elements of jazz, impressionism and psychedelic soul.

He also releases instrumental music under the pseudonym 'Soren Sostrom'.
