Author of 6 albums, including the recent “An UnRuly Manifesto”, James Brandon Lewis draws inspiration from Ornette Coleman's flights, evokes Spiritual Jazz, and occasionally marks his compositions with Hip Hop beats. A musician to follow very closely.
James Brandon Lewis (born 1983 in Buffalo, NY) studied at Howard University and earned his MFA at the California Institute of the Arts. He is a critically acclaimed saxophonist and composer.
He has received praise from the New York Times, NPR, the Ascap Foundation, the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, and the great jazzman Sonny Rollins stated: "Promising young instrumentalist with the potential to do great things after listening to the elders" Jazz Magazine and was recently voted Rising Star Tenor Saxophonist by Downbeat Magazine's 2020 critics' poll.
