Overview
Tribute concert in memory of Günter Pichler, founding member of the legendary Quatuor Alban Berg
The Quatuors Tchalik and Van Kuijk pay tribute to Günter Pichler, first violin and founding member of the legendary Quatuor Alban Berg, who was their mentor.
They are joined by the pianist Shani Diluka and the cellist Valentin Erben, a friend and colleague of Pichler's within the Quatuor Alban Berg.
They will perform Mendelssohn's Octet op. 20 and Brahms's Quintet op. 34, as well as the moving slow movement of Schubert's Quintet for two cellos.
An immense violinist and quartet player, Günter Pichler was also an outstanding teacher who trained many of today's finest quartets. His sudden passing in April 2026 left a great void in the world of chamber music.
