A tribute concert in memory of Günter Pichler, founding member of the legendary Alban Berg Quartet.
The Tchalik and Van Kuijk Quartets pay homage to Günter Pichler, first violin and founding member of the legendary Alban Berg Quartet, who was their mentor. They are joined by pianist Shani Diluka and cellist Valentin Erben, Pichler's friend and colleague in the Alban Berg Quartet. They will perform Mendelssohn's Octet op.20 and Brahms' Quintet op.34, as well as the moving slow movement from Schubert's String Quintet with two cellos. An immense violinist and quartet player, Günter Pichler was also an extraordinary pedagogue, training many of today's best quartets. His sudden passing in April 2026 left a great void in the world of chamber music.
