Salif Keita, born in 1949 in Djoliba, Mali, is an emblematic figure of African and world music. A direct descendant of Soundiata Keita, founder of the Mali Empire, he had to overcome prejudice linked to his albinism and to his status as a noble wishing to become a musician, a profession traditionally reserved for griots. His career truly began with the Rail Band of Bamako in 1970, before he joined the Ambassadeurs Internationaux, with whom he recorded hit tracks such as "Mandjou". These early years shaped his musical identity, blending Mandingo traditions with contemporary sounds.

His international journey took a decisive turn with his move to France in the 1980s and the release of his first solo album, "Soro", in 1987. Produced by Ibrahima Sylla, this record was a milestone, fusing traditional instruments (kora, balafon) and synthesisers, paving the way for worldwide recognition. Albums such as "Ko-Yan" (1989) and "Amen" (1991), the latter nominated for the Grammy Awards, consolidated his reputation. Salif Keita is known for his powerful and melancholic voice, capable of conveying rare emotional depth, often in the service of messages of peace, tolerance and social justice.

Salif Keita's style is a unique fusion of Mandingo traditional music, Afro-Cuban rhythms and pop and jazz influences.
