About — The artist
Didier Malherbe, born in Paris on January 22, 1943, is a musician of jazz, rock, and world music, primarily known as a member of the progressive rock band Gong and Hadouk Trio, an ethno-jazz group. He is also a poet and author of two books of sonnets.
His first instrument was the saxophone, but he also plays other wind instruments: notably the bawu flute, the Chinese hulusi, the alto clarinet, the ocarina, the Laotian khên, and the Ukrainian sopilka. Since 1995, the duduk — an oboe played in Armenian music — has been his favourite instrument.
