Duran Duran

Duran Duran (pronounced /djʊˌræn djʊˈræn/) is a British new wave band, originating from Birmingham in the West Midlands (England). The group was part of the New Romantic movement associated with the 1980s new wave. The band was formed in 1978 by Nick Rhodes (keyboards) and John Taylor (bass). They were later joined by Roger Taylor (drums), Andy Taylor (guitar), and Simon Le Bon (vocals). The three Taylors in the band have no family relation to each other, nor to Roger Taylor (Queen's drummer).

Duran Duran's lineup changed over the years to include guitarist Warren Cuccurullo (1986-2001), replacing Andy Taylor who left in 1986, and drummers Steve Ferrone (1986-1989, 1993) and Sterling Campbell (1989-1991), replacing Roger Taylor who left in 1985. Following Warren Cuccurullo's departure in 2001, the band returned to its original lineup. Andy Taylor left the "Fab Five" again in summer 2006.

In 2007, as Duran Duran received a Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music, American magazine Billboard reported that the band's album sales exceeded 80 million worldwide. Other sources indicate sales of around 100 million records.

Among their greatest hits are The Reflex, Rio, Save a Prayer, A View to a Kill (co-written with John Barry and featured in the James Bond film For Your Eyes Only), Girls on Film, Planet Earth, Is There Something I Should Know?, All She Wants Is, Ordinary World, Notorious (featured in Donnie Darko), Do You Believe in Shame? (featured in Tequila Sunrise), and Out Of My Mind (featured in The Saint). Duran Duran is also known for the quality of its music videos.
