Earth, Wind

Earth, Wind and Fire (generally styled Earth, Wind & Fire) is an American funk and disco group from Chicago, Illinois. The group was formed in 1969 at the initiative of Maurice White. It is best known for the hits Fantasy (1977), September (1978), Boogie Wonderland (1979) and Let's Groove (1981).

Its most notable trait is its ability to innovate by introducing and skilfully blending elements from African, Brazilian, Cuban and Caribbean musical traditions into its funk sound, characterised by a top-quality horn section (the Phenix Horns) and arrangements drawing from both jazz and symphonic music.

Earth, Wind and Fire's music is sometimes described as "symphonic funk". The group is also notable for the complementary vocal styles of its two singers, Maurice White (baritone) and Philip Bailey (capable of singing falsetto, with a remarkable vocal range spanning several octaves).
