About — The artist
Éric Legnini (born 20 February 1970 in Huy, near Liège, Belgium) is a Belgian jazz pianist and bandleader, heading the Éric Legnini Trio.
Coming from an artistic family of Italian origin who had immigrated to Belgium, he began playing piano at six and became familiar with jazz as a teenager. In 1988, he spent two years in the United States studying American jazz, then returned to teach jazz piano at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, where he met Jacques Pelzer. He began playing in the Stefano di Battista Quartet, then formed the jazz ensemble Éric Legnini Trio in the 1990s with Flavio Boltro (trumpet) and Stefano Di Battista (saxophone), which made a name for itself during that decade.
A great admirer of Phineas Newborn, he dedicated the track The Memphis Dude, featured on his album Miss Soul, to him. He won the Octave for jazz music in 2006 and the award for Instrumental Album of the Year at the 2011 Victoires du Jazz for his album The Vox.
