About — The artist
Bradford Alexander Mehldau, known as Brad Mehldau, is an American pianist born on August 23, 1970, in Jacksonville, Florida. A virtuoso pianist, he is one of the most renowned and influential musicians of his generation.
He is notably famous for having extended the jazz repertoire to pop-rock, regularly playing pieces by Radiohead, Nick Drake, The Beatles, and Paul Simon. He also extends his repertoire to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and Gabriel Fauré, which he uses as a source of inspiration.
Aside from his recordings as a leader, Brad Mehldau has played with numerous musicians, including Charlie Haden, Lee Konitz, two lyrical artists (soprano Renée Fleming and mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter), Kurt Rosenwinkel, Pat Metheny, Joshua Redman… He has also participated in several film scores: Eyes Wide Shut, Ma femme est une actrice…
In addition to the piano, Brad Mehldau also plays other instruments on certain albums: xylophone, Fender Rhodes, Hammond B3, mellotron, synthesizer, drums, and percussion. He also occasionally sings, as in his album Finding Gabriel.
