Europe

Europe are a Swedish glam metal band, from Upplands Väsby, Sweden. Since forming in 1979, Europe have released eleven studio albums, several live albums, as well as numerous compilations of their greatest songs. Europe drew inspiration from several hard rock bands such as Iron Maiden, Scorpions, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, UFO, Deep Purple, Whitesnake, Rainbow, Michael Schenker Group, Thin Lizzy, Kiss...

The band became known for their hit 'The Final Countdown', but also for songs such as Carrie, Rock the Night and Open Your Heart and Cherokee.

After their first two albums, which had a rather heavy metal sound and found success in Scandinavia and Japan in the early 1980s, Europe became world famous in 1986 with their third album, The Final Countdown. Closer to melodic hard rock and hard FM, recalling bands such as Bon Jovi, this album became a considerable success, selling more than 3 million copies in the United States and more than 15 million worldwide.

Europe is one of the most decorated hard rock bands of the 1980s (alongside Scorpions, Guns N' Roses, AC/DC, Mötley Crüe, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Van Halen and Def Leppard), having sold more than 25 million records worldwide. In the United States, the band reached the Top 20 of the Billboard 200 albums chart with two albums (The Final Countdown and Out of This World) and the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart with two tracks (The Final Countdown and Carrie).

The band decided to take a break in 1992, after the tour for the album Prisoners in Paradise, with each member wanting to pursue solo albums or other musical projects. The band reunited temporarily for a one-off concert in Stockholm for New Year's Eve in 1999, before announcing an official reunion in 2003. Since then, Europe have continued to perform live and have recorded seven albums: Start from the Dark (2004), Secret Society (2006), Last Look at Eden (2009), Bag of Bones (2012), War of Kings (2015), Walk the Earth (2017) and Come This Madness (2026).
