Europe

Europe is a Swedish glam metal band from Upplands Väsby, Sweden. Since its formation in 1979, Europe has released eleven studio albums, several live albums, and numerous compilations of their best songs. Europe is inspired by several hard rock bands such as Iron Maiden, Scorpions, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, UFO, Deep Purple, Whitesnake, Rainbow, Michael Schenker Group, Thin Lizzy, Kiss...

The band became known thanks to their hit "The Final Countdown" but also with songs like Carrie, Rock the Night, Open Your Heart, and Cherokee.

After two first albums with a rather heavy metal signature, which found success in Scandinavia and Japan in the early 1980s, Europe became world famous in 1986 with its third album, The Final Countdown. Closer to melodic hard rock and hard FM, reminiscent of bands like Bon Jovi, this album became a considerable success, selling over 3 million copies in the United States and over 15 million worldwide.

Europe is one of the most acclaimed hard rock bands of the 1980s (like Scorpions, Guns N' Roses, AC/DC, Mötley Crüe, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Van Halen, and Def Leppard), selling over 25 million records worldwide. In the United States, the band reached the Top 20 on the Billboard 200 with two albums (The Final Countdown and Out of This World) and the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 with two songs (The Final Countdown and Carrie).

The band decided to take a break in 1992 after touring for the album Prisoners in Paradise, with each member wanting to pursue solo albums or other musical projects. The band reunited temporarily for a single concert in Stockholm for New Year's Eve in 1999, before announcing an official reunion in 2003. Since then, Europe has continued to perform in concert and has recorded seven albums: Start from the Dark (2004), Secret Society (2006), Last Look at Eden (2009), Bag of Bones (2012), War of Kings (2015), Walk the Earth (2017), and Come This Madness (2026).
